Context
I collaborated with Dr. Martens and Liverpool-based independent radio platform Melodic Distraction as part of a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new permanent home for the station.
The project formed part of Dr. Martens’ wider initiative to support grassroots creatives—providing space, visibility, and resources to independent cultural organisations.
The aim was to create artwork that could represent the energy of the platform while supporting the campaign through merchandise and visual output.
Creative role
Lead Artist
Creation of artwork for merchandise range
Visual translation of music and community identity
Contribution to campaign supporting independent radio
Execution
The artwork was developed in response to Melodic Distraction’s identity as a community-driven music platform—drawing from the raw, DIY energy of independent radio and underground culture.
Using a bold, expressive visual language, the designs were applied across merchandise and campaign materials—creating a recognisable visual presence that could support both fundraising and awareness.
Rather than functioning as standalone graphics, the work became part of the campaign itself—connecting audience, music, and message through a shared visual identity.
Outcome
Artwork delivered as part of Dr. Martens collaboration
Merchandise supporting Melodic Distraction Kickstarter campaign
Increased visibility for independent radio platform
Contribution to funding a new creative space
Impact
The project uses artwork as a tool for support helping to sustain and amplify an independent music platform at a critical moment.
By connecting a global brand with a grassroots community, the work bridges scale and culture demonstrating how design can contribute to real-world impact beyond commercial output.
