Context
Commissioned by Liverpool ONE and Culture Liverpool, I was invited to create a new visual treatment for the city’s iconic “Liverpool” sign—located at the gateway to the waterfront and seen by both local and international visitors.
The sign had quickly become a focal point within the city, functioning as both a landmark and a widely photographed destination. The brief was to reimagine it as a piece of public artwork that could reflect Liverpool’s identity while enhancing its presence within the city.
The project formed part of a wider initiative to celebrate Liverpool’s culture and re-energise the city centre following a major period for tourism.

CREATIVE ROLE
Lead Artist
Concept development for full sign wrap
Creation of artwork across all letterforms
Translation of city identity into large-scale public piece
Execution
The design was developed as a continuous visual composition spanning the full 14.5 metre structure, using each letter as part of a wider narrative rather than treating them as individual elements.
Drawing from Liverpool’s cultural references, landmarks, and character, the artwork combines bold linework, colour, and layered illustration to create a piece that feels both playful and recognisable.
The visual language blends street art with graphic clarity—allowing the work to be immediately engaging at distance, while revealing detail and references up close.
Applied as a full vinyl wrap across the sculptural lettering, the piece transforms the sign into an immersive artwork—shifting it from static signage into an active part of the city’s visual landscape.
